Sports Opportunities
At St Lawrence, our aim is to raise achievement throughout the whole curriculum supported by high quality physical education and sports.
To achieve this, St Lawrence attends numerous different sporting events, providing students with the brilliant opportunity to compete in a number of activities around the district.
PE and Sport Grant Funding
The government has committed to provide additional funding to improve the provision of PE and sport in primary schools. This funding is ring-fenced and can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools. Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer. We use the funding to bring sport and PE specialist providers into school throughout the year.
Competitive Sports Teams
We excel at sport at St Lawrence and just love representing our school whenever we can! We have a long tradition of successfully competing with local schools in a range of sports and have a successful boys' football team, a girls' football team, netball teams and a cross-country running squad who all take part in inter-school competitions within the local area.
Swimming
All children in Years 4 & 5 take part in swimming lessons at our local pool. One class from each year group has 10 half-hour tuition sessions in each school term. By the time the children reach Year 6, we aim to make sure that as many as possible can swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a minimum distance of 25m; can use a range of swimming strokes efficiently and are able to perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
Sports Day
We love our annual Sport Day and pride ourselves on the fact that each and every one of our pupils gets a chance to compete. Wearing their house colours all day, the aim of the pupils is to win the House Cup.
